Why social media matters for search engines and your website
Many may ask- Why Social Media Matters for Search Engines. Let’s start with the obvious- if we go to the time and trouble of creating a website page or post we want relevant people to read it- we want relevant eyeballs on it.
Today the famous Bill Gates quote that content is king is more relevant than ever..
In the recent past getting your website posts or pages to rank on Google or any of the search engines was an art-form, that was beyond the reach of many simply because it was and still is to a lesser degree a complex process to many mere mortals.
Keywords and backlinks still remain critical for website content and SEO, and being found, but gone are the days of keyword stuffing and really poor content actually behind all of those keywords.
The fact is, search engines today reward websites that post fresh content, that is original, authoritative, comprehensive, spam-free – and, many like me would argue that social sharing is also a critical factor in promoting your site ( although there is more to this than meets the eye).
Now How Does Social Sharing Help SEO or Your Site?
An article by Sharon Hurley Hall in a guest post for OptinMonster in late 2019 makes for a great read.
Here are 3 quotes from this informative article to urge you to read it:
- social likes and shares ARE a direct ranking factor for Bing.
- According to Google, social media is NOT a direct SEO ranking factor.
- (BUT)If lots of people share your content on social media, then it’s likely more people will link to it, and links ARE a hugely important SEO ranking factor
So Let’s Get To The Importance of Social Sharing?
It’s amazing how times have changed when it comes to how we interact with each other.
Irish people check their phones on average 50
times a day…. Deloitte
With smartphones and mobile devices, people can interact with family and friends almost instantly. They can – and they do – quickly check Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter feeds any time, day or night.
The point is that people through social media now habitually ask friends for opinions on products or services, check out local businesses, and visit websites promoted through social ads or social media Business Pages.
If people like your content, they share links to your site for you, because one side effect of social sharing will be that you attract targeted customers or clients who never would have found you, any other way.
Remember – You Can Share and Promote your website content through your social channels
If you use your social accounts wisely in conjunction with your website:
Social Media Arouses Curiosity
People share interesting content to their followers
Location, reviews, recommendations, “Likes” and photos or videos of your products or business-product demos – and an opportunity to let a wide market hear your unique “voice-or message” – make social media not only important for driving traffic to your website, but vital to search engine rankings and results as well.
