Google changes for Websites in 2021
Google changes for Websites in 2021: For those of you with a website, it is important to note that some major changes will be implemented by Google in 2021 – in the context of ranking sites.
Google announced on 10th Nov that starting in May 2021 ranking will be based on “page experience”.
Hmmm…what is page experience?
Page experience is all about how your users perceive the experience of interacting with your website beyond just the value of the information your site provides.
Simply put, if Google thinks people don’t enjoy using your website, it will not rank it as high in search results.
This means your website…
- Must load fast.
- Be mobile-friendly.
- Is safe – free from malware.
- Have an SSL Certificate.
- No intrusive interstitials (popups covering the main content of the page).
To quote Google…
“While page experience is important, Google still seeks to rank pages with the best information overall, even if the page experience is subpar. Great page experience doesn’t override having great page content. However, in cases where there are many pages that may be similar in relevance, page experience can be much more important for visibility in Search.”
For those with websites, keep page experience in mind.
Start working on things one by one to improve your website for your visitors. If you have good content and visitors enjoy the experience, Google will love you.
